Tell us about yourself.Tell us About your journey  into the world of fashion?
I am Divya Samal, designer of label divya Samal, it’s a brand that I created in my 3rd year of college after a successful department fashion show.
With a great support from my family and faculties of NIFT, I  started my own label. Later that year I showcased my collection at Asian designer week, winter edition.
I graduated from national Institute of fashion technology Chennai.
What do you think of today’s bridal fashion
In 2019, the bridal fashion is fresh again in the form of embellishments, large doses of colors and statement details that pack a punch.
Most defining qualities of a millenial Indian bride is that they are the risk takers, bold and unconventional.
The brides want their outfits to be the narrative of their personalities, it’s no longer about choosing the heaviest outfits.
Delicate pastel hues, second skin blouses, overdose of Jewellery and ultra long veils are what’s trending this season.
Who is your favourite celebrity you love dressing up
My favorite celebrity I have loved dressing up is Akshara Gowda.  she is a wonderful diva and it’s always a lot of fun to be working with Akshara.
A celebrity you would like to work with  The list is very long, but if given a chance I would love to dress up Deepika Padukone. I am a huge fan of her since  I saw her in her very 1st movie.

What inspired you into pursuing your career in fashion?
From a very young age I was inspired by  fairytales and the glamorous  world of fashion and that’s something that really stayed with me and that’s where I draw most of my inspiration from today. I never thought that I’d be a fashion designer I just wanted to draw and I loved fabrics, even as a kid I used to draw gowns and dresses and ask my parents to bring the exact same piece.
Tell us your thought process while designing a collection
When I design a collection my aim is to tell a story. I do a lot of research on fabric and the bead work. I think the designs resonates with people because there’s a sense of nostalgia and maybe it reminds them of when they were a child reading their first story book or the dream that they had. Each collection tells a story, and for me that’s really important, I really want to take people on a journey and and transport them to the fantasy world and give them that sense of enchantment and maybe even inspire them.

What is special about capsule couture and what excites you to design each collection?
I love working in couture because of the craftsmanship and the skills it takes, there’s an incredible amount of handwork  and hours of dedication into details that goes into each dress, each stitch is so meticulous but at the same time it really gives you the freedom and the creativity to experiment with different techniques and fabrics and I find that really exciting and it inspires me.

How do you feel about your journey so far?
I am just so grateful to be on this journey and doing something that I love every day and I am excited to see where it takes me. Everyday I wake up and think how lucky I am to do the sort of work and in a way I think the fairytales that I create with each collection is what I get to live out each day so I just feel incredibly lucky and incredibly grateful for every moment.
What is your message to young and aspiring designers
Be prepared to work hard, stay true to yourself. And be the absolute best that you can be. Deliver your best work each and every day. And try to do better each and every day.  There’s a lot of hard work that goes into fashion designing and even running a business. So always be prepared to work hard because nothing  comes easy to anyone.
