Ever wondered why Haldi ceremony is so popular in Indian weddings? It is one custom that is followed in most of the regions, across India. The ceremony is held for both the bride and groom to-be and usually takes place a day before the wedding.

A special mix of turmeric, sandalwood, gram flour and rose water is prepared and applied on the hands, legs and face of the bride/groom. Traditionally, this application used to start weeks before the wedding (mostly for the bride), to get that golden glow on the day of the wedding. In current times, with the availability of so many skin care products and services, most brides prefer the turmeric mask to be applied only on the ceremony day.

The ceremony brings along its share of tradition, wedding songs and loads of fun with family and friends

Apart from giving that stunning glow on the D day, there are one and more reasons to buy, stock and use this wonder herb.

Turmeric has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic & anti-bacterial properties, useful in healing wounds and keeping bacterial infections at bay. When taken internally, turmeric acts as an effective blood purifier which, in turn, helps to improve the condition of your skin. Traditionally turmeric milk is given in Indian households to heal internal injuries and fight infections.

If you have dark circles, add a pinch of turmeric to two tablespoons of buttermilk and apply it around your eyes for 20 minutes and rinse off with cold water. Regular application is effective in eliminating dark circles as well as wrinkles. Turmeric contains a compound called ‘curcumin’, which is said to lighten pigmentation and even out skin tone

Turmeric contains anti-oxidants and helps stimulate new cell growth and help keep the skin’s elasticity intact. It assists in attacking free radicals to give a youthful looking skin, devoid of rashes and other disorders.

It also acts as a stress relieving agent. A glass of turmeric milk can help you get rid of that headache and relax a bit from the exhaustion and running around for the wedding preparations.
